Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
“Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul” Friedrich Froebel
The EYFS early years foundation stage is a set of standards that schools and OFSTED registered settings have to follow. It outlines and gives guidance to the learning and development of your child from birth to 5 years.
The EYFS consists of the following 7 early learning goals:
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive, Arts and Design
Our aim is to provide the above learning opportunities through a wide range of stimulating play activities both indoors and outdoors. Play is initiated by the child, in our setting the children lead the way and we help scaffold and build on their existing knowledge through interaction, gestures, and giving children time and opportunity to talk and express themselves.
We work according to the EYFS by setting up activities centred around children’s interests, observing their play and interaction. Based on this we tailor plan for further development. The guidelines help us to provide a high quality of education where we are able to assess the children’s stage and age of development. This then allows us to evaluate where extra support may be required.
